Smarter Balanced Assessments
Almost everybody is finished with the ELA and Math Smarter Balanced Assessment.  They worked hard and I am so proud of them.  Our Science assessment is May 30.

Mrs. Coyle's Class 5th Grade Art Project
Continuing the tradition that I did last year with my 5th graders, we will be making a beautiful 12" x 12" String Art project.  This involves pounding small art nails into a piece of painted pine wood.  They come out amazing.   I have about 8 hammers that we can share--they are 7 oz. hammers, but 1 lb. work, too even if they are a little heavy.  So,  if you have a hammer at home that you are willing to donate the use of for the next few weeks, please send it to school in your child's backpack.  We discussed the safety side of bringing a hammer to school, but please reinforce that they are to stay in their backpacks until they are in class and can give them to me.
Hammers and projects will go home after 5th Grade dance.
I am excited to share this project with everybody in my class.

Summer Birthdays
If your child has a summer birthday but you would still like to celebrate with the class, no worries.  We will be celebrating all summer birthdays the last 2 weeks of school.

Box Top Contest--Until June 1!
There's still time to turn in those Box Top for Education!  If we get the most, we will win an ICE CREAM PARTY!  Well, we went from first place to 4th place.   But I'm not giving up hope.  Keep turning in those Box Tops--even if you only have a couple.  We could pull off a school upset! ; )

Change of Dates and Events for Next Month
June is going to be a busy month for 5th graders.  Please keep these dates--or change of dates--in mind:

6/12--5th Grade Concert
6/13--5th Grade Dance-More info to come home soon.

Spelling: Unit 5 Lesson 5
Math: Reviewing Numbers Small & Large p. 147-148

I am now offering homework help on Wednesdays during lunch.  Students can eat in the classroom while getting their homework done with the teacher's help.  It is completely voluntary, but a great resource for students that try their homework but just don't understand.  If you see that your child is getting homework back with a "Please Correct" on it, then maybe this is for them.

Prairie Ridge now offers homework help every Thursday 3:30 to 5:30 in the Rec Hall.  They have tutoring for all ages and would love to see more middle and High school youth benefiting from the help.  They have a volunteer that can help pick up students within PR if transportation is a barrier.  After school snack is provided.

Questions can be directed to Stacy and Brian Buchanan, lead tutors:
