Principal Schutz

Dear Foothills Falcons,

Hello, Foothills families! I am thrilled to be a part of the amazing Foothills community! I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I began my career in Arizona over 20 years ago. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade throughout my time in AZ. My family and I moved to Buckley in 2015, where I taught at Mountain Meadow while I worked on my Master’s in Educational Administration at the University of Washinton, Tacoma. After earning my degree, I have had the opportunity to be an Assistant Principal at Mountain Meadow, Wilkeson, and for the last two years at Elk Ridge. The Buckley community is where my family and I call home. I am invested in the success of our schools. I believe in building strong relationships while maintaining high expectations. Partnering with families is just a part of who I am. Feeling connected to the community and working together to achieve great things is what inspires me to work hard. I truly love the work I do, and I feel grateful that I get to work in a place I love.

Foothills Elementary is in the heart of a close-knit community. Many of you are sending your children to the school that you once called home. Teachers, students, and families take pride in the culture that is Foothills. Our motto, “You matter. You Belong. We are Foothills.” speaks to the pride and sense of belonging that is prevalent in our school. Within this culture of belonging is a set of high expectations. We believe that students can achieve at high levels. We partner with families to work together as a team to support all students.

At Foothills, we believe in the White River Promise for every student. First, we provide effective and rigorous Tier 1 instruction for both academics and social-emotional learning is happening in every classroom, every day. Next, we have a culture of collective efficacy. We work together within and across grade levels to better meet the needs of our students. In addition, we use student data to make sound instructional moves that close gaps for students. We work together with intentionality to ensure each Falcon gets what they need at their level. These are the promises that guide our decisions each day. We continually ask ourselves, “Is it good enough for my own child?” Foothills is a place where students and families want to be.

As I transition into the role as principal, you may notice a few changes. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions. I welcome the opportunity to partner with you and work together to help you and your family. A few important things about me, I will always work hard to support students and families, and I will always own my mistakes. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. I am happy to chat on the phone, meet in person, or through email.

Yours,
Jen Schutz
